An exciting new partnership for HYC!

Just last week, I got together with an organization called Eyes of Hope, a student group at UofT whose goal is to raise $80,000 to build a house for Habitat for Humanity. I heard about Eyes of Hope through Enloe Wilson, the Faith & Community Relations Coordinator at Habitat Toronto and here’s the touching story that compelled me to reach out and help them achieve an amazing goal:

Eyes of Hope was started by Davis Doan, a U of T Civil Engineering student. He is described as “a big dreamer and a gentle soul with a desire for helping others and tried to inspire change in the world even in just little ways, motivating others to help to the best of their abilities.” Unfortunately, after a struggling with cancer, Davis passed away on May 20, 2010. To date, Eyes of Hope has raised $32,000 in support of many causes such as Habitat, Free the Children, World Vision, and to help many natural disaster sites.

Eyes of Hope has been able to raise around $25,000 towards their goal to build a Habitat house. Davis’ friends want to fulfill his legacy before they graduate and HYC is honoured to be a part this journey! Personally, I was inspired to hear about youth like Davis who have made such an impact in society.

Over the next little while, Eyes of Hope and HYC will host joint events and we hope to raise $80,000 for the Habitat house! I hope Davis’ story inspired you make a difference and hope you can join us in fulfilling this amazing goal!

Click here to get your tickets!

So, what is a clothing swap?
A swap is a great way transform your wardrobe without breaking the bank! You get a ticket for each item you want to swap. Everything is pre-inspected before it can be put on the "sales floor", and for as many items as you bring to the event, you get that many "tickets" that allow for the exchange of an item. (eg. You bring 5 items, you will receive 5 tickets and will be able to walk out with a maximum of 5 different items!)

Where is the event held?
SWAP till you drop! is going to be held at the Metropolitan United at the Queen and Church St. Its an amazingly beautiful church, definitely worth checking out! We don't want you to google to much, so here are the directions: Google Map Link (Click here for a Google Map)

Who is attending this event?

Can I participate without bring anything to swap?
No, the purpose of the event is to trade what you no longer wear for something you would.

What if I didn’t use all my tickets?

Can I volunteer at the event?
